First English Version of Granado Espada Ready in May
The First English Version of Hakkyu Kim's Latest Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, Granado Espada, Will Be available for Gamers in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand on May 17th. Since April 2006, Infocomm Asia Holdings (IAH), the operator for the game, has been hard at work localizing the hit Korean game. While the commercial release of the game is slated for later this year, IAH has decided to have a Pre-Open Beta Test where the game will be free to play for all avid online gamers. The Singaporean company has pulled out all stops in their effort to localize Kim's latest vision, which won the top prize in the 2006 Korean Game Awards, the Presidential Award for the Best Game of 2006, as well as clinching a prize for Best Graphics.
Work for grades, live for speed
Shortly before I started my career as a Midyear here at Brandeis this past January, I contemplated deleting all of the games that I had stored on my computer. "They'll just be a distraction," I told my myself. "You won't have time for video games." But I had saved up these games for years. I had found them for free online, burned them from friends, taken them from shareware CDs, and overall, I considered myself to have an impressive collection. So I compromised with myself. "You may keep them on the computer, but no playing during the school year." My plan worked successfully at first. Work got done on time, bedtime was at least sometimes reasonable, by college standards, self-discipline was great - until Tuesday night. The other day my roommate and I found ourselves with the rare situation of both being in the room and free to have fun.

What an unpleasant surprise. Just when you expect another humdrum horror misadventure from Screen Gems (the Sony property responsible for When A Stranger Calls, The Cave and The Covenant), the studio unleashes the best the genre's seen since The Descent.For a terror tale about snuff torture porn, Vacancy is actually rather subtle. In setting up the protagonist pair as a bickering but likable couple, the flick doesn't resort to expositional flashbacks. Only choice dialogue is required to establish their marriage is on the rocks. It isn't long before they have us rooting for them to get back together -- if they can survive, that is.When their car breaks down on the side of the road, Amy and David Fox are forced to share "one last adventure" at the ramshackle Pinewood Motel a mile down. It isn't 30 minutes into the film when they begin receiving prank calls and hearing loud banging from the room next door.
