Microsoft will also release a new mini-keyboard for its Xbox 360 controllers that will allow gamers to text easily, even while they're playing online. The new service, part of a spring update for Xbox Live, means that instant messaging, a task that had required a PC or mobile phone, will now come to television. To be sure, Microsoft's 6 million Xbox Live users have been able to instant message each other online. But the process is balky, requiring you to use an onscreen keyboard or plug in an actual keyboard. But now, Xbox Live users can connect to any of Microsoft's 260 million Windows Live users using a simple text pad.
