While Microsoft's Xbox Live online system is generally reliable, Xbox 360 gamers found throughout the holidays less than satisfactory service. Gamers widely reported problems using Xbox Live, which Microsoft said was caused by the influx of new subscribers. "As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break," said Marc Whitten, general manager for Xbox Live, earlier this month. "While the service was not completely off-line at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance." Microsoft promised all Xbox Live users, both new and old, compensation for the downtime in the form of a full Xbox Live Arcade game that will be available for download free of charge. Today, Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog revealed that the free game available to all Silver and Gold Xbox Live members will be Undertow.

Gimme candy corn, scarecrow, pumpkins and the Lion King
Yup, I'll take all four after reading this Halloween Spokesman, which had lots of treats for early-morning consumption. After all the fun yesterday responding to Doug Clark's satire about the Broadway musical's ubiquitous mind-piercing ad, I enjoyed reading Jim Kershner's review Lion King Dazzle this morning and wouldn't mind attending the production. He provided enough visual detail to convince me that it must be spectacular. I also enjoyed reading Hilary Kraus' pieceking of commerce which provides a look into the added financial bonanza that local businesses will be enjoying during the show's run. Her story also serves as a reminder for out-of-towners who may be coming into Spokane during this period to plan ahead for parking, dining and sleeping overnight.
Big Day Out DJs talk about their Big Day Out
His wife, meant to accompany him on the tour Down Under, is instead stuck at home in New York looking after their sick dog. ‘‘I need to play the gigs, then just get to my hotel and turn the computer on and put the camera on and try to co-ordinate -- I'm the one on the phone with the dog hospital -- just to take some of the pressure off my wife, 'cos we're a team,'' Murphy says. But the show must go on -- ‘‘It was like a personal thing for me'' Murphy says, explaining that for the past few years the timing was just not right to get the LCD band on the BDO. It was now or never. And Murphy -- who went from sleeping on the floor of his DFA label office to fronting one of the most adored outfits in dance music (‘‘pop'', he'll argue) -- for one is glad that LCD's time is now, when he's 37.
Motherwell v Hearts: Preview
Motherwell welcome Jim Paterson back from suspension for the Scottish Cup fourth-round replay against Hearts. Paterson is in the middle of a two-game SPL ban but is free to face Hearts. Kenny Connolly remains on the sidelines following his broken leg but manager Mark McGhee should have an otherwise full squad. Midfielder Steven McGarry believes the players' determination to reach the Scottish Cup fifth round will carry them through their return to action at Fir Park. The Lanarkshire side return to their home ground since skipper Phil O'Donnell died after collapsing during a game against Dundee United on December 29. They showed tremendous spirit to recover from two goals down and force a replay against Hearts in their first game back.
5-medal day for Canada at SwimCup 2007
I didn't hear the start at all," said Pierse, who was preparing to stand on the starter's block when the signal went off. "So I probably lost about three-tenths of a second right there and a chance to go under 2:25. "But I was pleased with how I fixed up that mistake quickly in the race." In the 800 freestyle, Ionela Cozma of Romania took the gold in 8:38.44, Hunks followed in 8:43.53 and Rebecca Cooke of Britain was third in 8:46.46. .
