How McCain Can "Get Right"

That would make the extra GOP downturn among Hispanics more like a mere 2%! But that would be hardly be worth writing a big report about. No wonder Pew didn't mention it. ...

P.S.: What are the chances that the Pew Hispanic Center is going to conclude that Hispanics are not important or distinctive--they're really just like everyone else and really not worth studying much? I'd say close to zero. The study would be more credible if it came from the Pew Hellenic Center. ... Update: Steve Sailer says I'm being unfair to Pew. ("Robert Suro and the others at the Pew Hispanic Center are willing to publicly state, for example, that the Hispanic vote isn't as big or powerful as the media typically assume."**) But this report, not written by Suro, seems pretty egregious--and it does hype Hispanic voting power.

2007: The Year in Tech

No, not on the same level as with Vista, but it does show that Apple's not perfect.

Prognosis: The rule with Apple operating systems has always been "Never adopt point-oh technologies." Leopard has already had a point upgrade, so soon all will be right with the world.

Event: Daylight Saving Goes Green, Makes Everyone Crazy

Going green isn't easy. A couple of years ago, the U.S. government took the proactive step of passing a law to change daylight saving time so that it begins earlier in the spring and ends later in the fall.

Why? So that Americans would have more daylight hours and burn less energy.

Great idea, except that everyone's technology was programmed to change on the original daylight-saving days. Microsoft sent out patches.

GM's next generation Chevrolet Impala will remain FWD-based

Instead, Chrysler is developing new "Phoenix" high-output V6 engine to take the place of the Hemi. The engines will feature dual overhead cams, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. Ranging-topping variants are likely to surpass 300 HP, like its competitors, and provide better fuel economy than its Hemi counterpart.

When it comes to actual vehicle platforms, General Motors is already taking steps to comply with the update CAFE. The company originally planned to resurrect the Pontiac GTO -- again -- using the same underpinnings as the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac G8. Those plans are now shelved.

"I think (the Monaro/Pontiac GTO) is gone for now," said GM's Bob Lutz. "We've got nothing in the product plan right now like that. We'd like to have, but you can't do everything."

GM was to also build the next generation Chevy Impala using the same RWD platform.

Stories of Hellrazr360

Like several other users, I'm going to be doing a feature for the ten games I'm looking forward to the most which are coming out this year (or hopefully, I know some might get delayed to next year). So, before I actually begin with my top ten I figured I'd do a list of ten honorable mentions of other games I'm curious to see and try out this year. Oh, and unlike my actual top ten, these honorable mentions aren't in any specific order of anticipation:

MotorStorm 2: Sony's exclusive next-gen dirt racer from last year showed much promise but barely managed to utilize the potential it had. Outside of being a real visual treat with some semi-realism, Motorstorm proved to be a pretty basic racing game. But like all sequels, there's room for improvement, and the first Motorstorm did have a rushed feel.

2007: How was it for security?

Security researchers worked overtime in 2007, which turned out to be a nightmare for software vendors from day one.

NAB floats denial-of-service threats to the cloud

Thanks to bots and the rise of financially-driven cybercrime, the menace of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks are too real to ignore -- defending against such attacks however is driving collaboration between ISPs and top tier telcos to push security to the cloud.

SMS two-factor authentication dead in 3 years: NAB

SMS-delivered two-factor authentication will be dead in three years, according to National Australia Bank's general manager of technology, risk and security, Gary Blair.
