| Turf war: How Britain's playing fields became a battleground
It's 1-1 with five minutes to go at the Nursery Road playing fields in Merton, awealthy district of southwest London. Two teams of nine-year-old boys are battling it out in a closely fought football match. On opposite sides of the pitch, about 20 parents have gathered to cheer on their sons from the touchline. As the referee's watch ticks towards full time, an attacker from the visiting team sprints gamely down the wing towards the penalty area, only for a defender to take him out with a crunching (and illegal) late tackle. The away supporters emit a collective groan as the boy crumples theatrically to the ground. Back on his feet, the felled youngster inspects a grazed knee, and the game resumes with a free kick. But the player’s mother is incensed.

EDDIE MURPHY EARNS MULTIPLE RAZZIE NODS: "Norbit" singled out by annual celebration of year's worst films and performances. *Eddie Murphy has joined Halle Berry in the rare class of actors who have received nominations for both an Academy Award, honoring the best in film, and a Razzie Award, which "rewards" the year's worst. Berry was a winner at both ceremonies – earning a best actress Oscar for "Monster's Ball" in 2002 and a worst actress Razzie three years later for "Catwoman." While Murphy was unable to bag the supporting actor Oscar for "Dreamgirls" last year, chances are good that he'll take home at least one of eight Razzie nominations for his 2007 fiasco "Norbit." Murphy alone received five Razzie nods, more than anyone has ever gotten in a single year. Besides worst picture, "Norbit" had nominations for Murphy as worst actor in the title role, supporting actress as Norbit's morbidly-obese wife, supporting actor as an Asian man and worst screen couple for Norbit opposite either of Murphy's other characters.

More than 50 arrested in separate incidents prior to UEFA Cup matches
LONDON (AP) -More than 50 people were arrested in separate incidents of fan violence prior to UEFA Cup matches in Austria and the Netherlands on Thursday. At least 13 were arrested when about 150 Rapid Vienna and Anderlecht fans clashed at the Westbahnhof train station in Vienna. No injuries were immediately reported, but police said brawling fans blocked two tramway lines and that broken glass was strewn across one of Vienna's main shopping avenues. Police said witnesses reported seeing some fans vandalize small outdoor drinking establishments and smash car mirrors. Rowdy groups of 20-30 bare-chested fans were seen drinking beer Thursday morning, and there was a heavy police presence around Hanappi Stadium. Police said fans of the two rivals had clashed last month in Belgium, and that hooligans were expected to stage a rematch in Vienna.
